Blowing Agent

Blowing Agent

Blowing agents are essential in producing insulation foams like polystyrene (PS), polyurethane (PU), and polyisocyanurate (PIR), as even small amounts enhance the foams’ thermal insulation performance.

Additionally, we provide pentane blends, including:

  • Iso/N-Pentane Blend (25–75%): 25% isopentane and 75% n-pentane.
  • Iso/N-Pentane Blend (20–80%): 20% isopentane and 80% n-pentane.
  • Iso/Cyclopentane Blend (30–70%): 30% isopentane and 70% cyclopentane.

Pentane

Derived from natural gas and crude oil, pentane is a volatile hydrocarbon solvent separated from other alkanes through fractional distillation and isomerization at oil refineries. Due to its high volatility at room temperature, it also serves as an effective solvent that evaporates quickly.

Pentane as a Blowing Agent in PUR Insulation Foam:

  • N-Pentane (CAS: 78-78-4)
  • Isopentane (CAS: 78-78-4)
  • Cyclopentane (CAS: 287-92-3)

In terms of health and safety, pentane is highly flammable and, when inhaled, can lead to euphoria, headaches, tinnitus, and nausea. It is available in bulk packaging.

HFO Blowing Agents

As an authorized Arkema distributor, we also offer Forane® FBA 1233zd (CAS: 109-66-0), a high-performance, environmentally-friendly hydrofluoroolefin (HFO) blowing agent. Composed of hydrogen, fluorine, and carbon, HFOs are generally stable but reactive, enhancing foam thermal performance while offering a low environmental impact with ODP (=0) and GWP (=1). HFOs are produced by reacting HF with chlorosolvents, available in 10 kg samples, vertical cylinders, horizontal tanks (900 kg), or isotanks.
